New York, New York – January 27, 2022 – Today, Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter/arranger/producer Yebba teamed up with Spotify and Electric Lady Studios to release her Live AT Electric Lady EP (Listen Here).
The five-song EP is a collection of powerful live recordings of songs from Yebba’s critically acclaimed, unbarred and honest debut album Dawn, reimagined, produced, and arranged by Yebba’s band leader, James Francies as well as a cover of John Mayer’s “The Age of Worry.” The EP includes contributions from Questlove, Pino Palladino (who notably played bass on the original John Mayer version of “The Age of Worry,” in addition to Yebba’s cover of the song), Charles Myers, and more.
Says James Francies, YEBBA’s Music Director & Album Producer: “Rerecording some of these songs with fresh eyes and ears really changed the way we approached them. Having the core members of the band from Dawn really brought that feeling of what it was like the past few years when we recorded it. From Questlove, to Pino, to Charles [Myers] and the string quartet, I think we all found comfort in being in a familiar space with familiar people. It felt like a family reunion.”
In celebration of the release, Yebba releases her compelling live performance video of “Louie Bag” (watch here) as well as her rendition of John Mayer’s “The Age of Worry” (watch here). Mayer himself was so moved he responded on Yebba’s Instagram post, “My screen is getting blurry. ❤️ So moved. Thank you for showing what’s been hiding in my own work through your profoundly powerful and soulful take. You are so special I can’t stand/understand it sometimes. ♥️♥️♥️”. Both “Louie Bag” & “The Age of Worry” were shot by Andy Swartz at Electric Lady Studios in New York.
Yebba – Live At Electric Lady EP – Tracklist:
The 27-year-old soul singer, songwriter, arranger grew up singing and listening to gospel music, along with arranging and music directing choirs in her hometown of West Memphis, Arkansas. She released her breakthrough video for “My Mind” in 2016. Soon after, she released her first single “Evergreen,” instantly captivating a passionate fan base leading to support and collaborations, including her 2019 Grammy-winning performance with PJ Morton on “How Deep Is Your Love.” This collaboration resulted in her first GRAMMY award for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
Her critically acclaimed debut album Dawn was released in September 2021. Dawn has dual meaning — Dawn is the name of Yebba’s mother who she lost to suicide. Dawn also refers to the first glimpse of light in the sky after the darkness of night, offering a radiant sense of possibility with her debut album. The album/songs have appeared on multiple best of lists for 2021 including President Barack Obama’s, The New York Times, NPR, Complex, Huffington Post, Variety, Spin and more.
Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winning musician and producer Mark Ronson produced the album, and other key collaborators include Questlove, the Roots, A$AP Rocky, KAYTRANADA, Pino Palladino, Smino, James Francies, Smokey Hormel and many more. The album was recorded at New York City’s Electric Lady Studios.
Yebba has been a go to collaborator for a-list musical talent. She has performed and collaborated with A Tribe Called Quest (“Melatonin”), Stormzy (“Heavy Is The Head”), Ed Sheeran (“Best Part of Me”), The Robert Glasper Experience (“Fuck Yo Feelings”), Mumford and Sons (“Beloved”), Sam Smith ( “No Peace”), Chance The Rapper(“Same Drugs”), and was the featured vocalist on three tracks from Mark Ronson’s latest studio album Late Night Feelings (“Don’t Leave Me Lonely,” “Knock Knock Knock” and “When U Went Away.”) This year, she collaborated with Lucky Daye’s on the GRAMMY-nominated “How Much Can A Heart Take” and on Drake’s just-released album Certified Lover Boy on “Yebba’s Heartbreak.”
